Our discussions this week will focus on reviewing Domain 3: Informatics, Analytics, and Data Use, which corresponds to Course Objective 4, as well as sharing any updates from your activities and experience at the practicum site. Once you review the relevant material, discuss the following.
- What are some of the typical healthcare statistics collected and reported? Ask HIM professionals in the department for any statistical reports they generate or report on. Also, elaborate on what the reports are used for. What types of data are abstracted, and what types of reports are generated in order to improve compliance, patient care, or population health? You can also discuss this question from a general perspective as a review question.
- Some measures of central tendency include mean, median, range, and mode. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of each. Which measure would better represent the population below? Why do you think so?
